If you hate having your photo taken, I get it. Some people just do not feel comfortable in front of a camera, and honestly, I don't think there is anything wrong with that. I think a lot of people who say they hate photos actually hate the feeling of being told how to stand, where to put their hands, when to smile, and how to somehow look “natural” while someone is watching them through a camera.
That is why I think the best photographer for someone who dislikes photos is someone who makes you feel comfortable first. That is something I try to bring into every session I photograph. Whether I am photographing a family, a couple, an engagement, a wedding, or an event, I want you to feel like you can actually be yourself around me. It is not about me. It is about you. I will give you direction when you need it. You don't have to know how to pose, and you definitely don't have to be a professional model. I can tell you where to put your hands, how to move, where to look, or what to do. But I also want to give you space to just be you.
And if I want to physically move you into a pose, I will ask first. I want to know what you are comfortable with, and if there is something you don't want to do, we don't do it. Your comfort is more important to me than getting one specific photo. I also try really hard to read the room. I pay attention to the energy, how comfortable everyone feels, and when people are starting to relax. Sometimes I might need to give more direction, sometimes I might need to step back, and sometimes I might just need to make you laugh because everyone is overthinking it. I am human, so I won't pretend I get it perfect every time, but I always try.
For people who hate posing, I usually find that more natural and candid photography works really well. Instead of standing still and staring at the camera, we can walk, talk, cuddle, laugh, dance, or just do something together. I want your photos to feel like something you were actually doing, not something you were forced to perform, and this is especially important on your wedding day. Your wedding isn't a photoshoot. You should be able to actually enjoy your wedding, not spend the entire day worrying about where your photographer is or whether you are posing correctly.
I want to photograph the little moments too. The way you look at each other. Your friends laughing. Your family crying. The moments you probably won't even notice happening until you see them in your gallery.
That is what photography is about for me.
Years from now, I don't want you looking at your photographs and thinking about whether you looked awkward. I want you to remember how that moment felt. So if you are looking for a Sudbury Ontario Photographer and you are someone who really does not like having your photo taken, you might not need to learn how to pose. You might just need a photographer who makes you comfortable enough to forget there is a camera there.
And honestly, that is exactly what I want to give you.
